A little unusual, a little abstract, and completely one of a kind.

This fascinating Kentucky agate is filled with an incredible assortment of natural colors and intricate details. Soft pinks, creamy whites, delicate pockets of banding, and earthy green tones are scattered throughout its darker background, giving the stone an almost painted appearance.

Rather than following a traditional rounded design, I decided to try something different.

After cutting into the original stone and exploring its interior, I selected another slab and traced out an intentionally imperfect kite shape. Each angle was carefully shaped and refined on my flat lap before working through several stages of smoothing and polishing.

The result is a small piece of natural abstract artwork, with an unconventional silhouette that complements the unusual character of the agate itself.

Every little section seems to have something different happening, making this an especially interesting piece to explore up close.

Every stone has its own character, and sometimes that means stepping away from the usual approach.

This Kentucky agate caught my attention because of how much was happening throughout its interior. Instead of simply polishing a flat surface, I wanted to create something that felt a little more artistic.

The imperfect kite design was intentional. I wasn’t looking for perfectly matching angles or a symmetrical outline. I wanted something that complemented the natural randomness of the material.

Using my flat lap, I gradually worked the slab into its final shape, softened the edges, and brought the surface through progressively finer polishing stages.

The finished piece preserves the natural beauty of the agate while adding a little of my own artistic interpretation.

No two stones are ever exactly alike, and that’s what makes creating with them so interesting.
