This Vermont find immediately had me thinking unakite, but the transformation really brought that possibility to life.

Once polished, the stone opened up into a mix of salmon-red and pink feldspar, lighter quartz, dark mineral grains and green mineralization running in veins throughout the entire piece. The contrast is incredible, especially where those green veins cut directly across the warmer red areas.

The combination is very characteristic of unakite, which is an altered granitic rock typically made up of pink feldspar, quartz and green epidote. Without mineral testing I can’t confirm the identification, so I’m calling this possible Vermont unakite—but visually, it has many of the features I would expect to see.

The entire stone was polished by hand while keeping its naturally tall freeform shape.

The StoneBorn Story:
This is exactly why I love working with stones I find here in Vermont. In the rough, you could already see hints of the red and green, but polishing completely changed how the mineral structure looked.

Instead of cutting it into a completely different shape, I followed the form nature had already given it. Each stage brought out more contrast until those green veins were running across a polished field of reds, pinks, quartz and darker minerals.

From a Vermont find to a finished StoneBorn piece, with the geology still very much part of what makes it unique.
