StoneBorn Creations Carnelian Freeform – Hand Polished with Natural Backside

This one turned into something I definitely wasn’t expecting.

Starting as a rough piece of carnelian with only hints of the deeper color showing through, I decided to work with its natural shape rather than cut it. I carefully shaped and polished the top and sides, revealing rich shades of deep red, burnt orange and warm translucent carnelian beneath the darker outer surface.

I intentionally left the backside completely natural, preserving the rough texture and giving the piece a really cool contrast between where it started and what was hiding underneath.

Small natural pockets, textures and imperfections were also left throughout the polished surface rather than grinding them away. They’re part of the stone and give this piece a ton of character.

In brighter light and sunlight, the polished carnelian really comes alive, showing deeper reds and glowing orange tones throughout.

A one-of-a-kind piece that still keeps plenty of its natural character.

For this carnelian, I chose to leave the backside completely natural while shaping and polishing the more colorful upper portion. The result preserves both sides of the stone’s story — the rough exterior it started with and the deep color hidden beneath it.
