StoneBorn Creations Red Lace Agate Freeform – Hand Polished with Natural Quartz Pockets

This one absolutely blew me away when the polish started coming through.

What began as a rough piece of Red Lace Agate completely transformed as I worked around the stone, revealing layer after layer of red, orange, cream, gray and blue-gray banding. Some areas have incredibly tight lace patterns while others open up into bold orb-like “eyes” surrounded by concentric bands.

Rather than grinding away everything to create a perfectly smooth shape, I followed the natural character of the stone and left several of its original quartz and crystalline pockets intact. The contrast between those untouched areas and the polished agate is one of my favorite parts of this piece.

Turn it around and it almost feels like a completely different stone from every angle. There is an incredible amount of detail packed into this one.

Instead of forcing a specimen into a predetermined shape, I prefer to work with what nature already created—following the bands, pockets, curves and imperfections as they reveal themselves throughout the process.

This Red Lace Agate is a perfect example. What looked interesting in the rough became something completely different once the outer material started coming away. I kept working around the stone, following those patterns and preserving the natural pockets rather than grinding them out.

The finished piece still carries part of its original rough character while showing off the incredible patterns that were hidden underneath.
