StoneBorn Creations Vermont Serpentine Freeform – Hand-Polished Local Stone

This unique Vermont stone immediately stood out because of its deep green coloring and unusual natural features.

Once polished, that dark forest green really came to life. The finished piece has lighter green and yellowish veining running throughout, natural pockets and fractures, and even tiny reddish specks scattered through different areas. Much of the original shape was preserved while polishing, leaving some of those natural features intact.

Based on its appearance and Vermont geology, this appears to be a serpentine-rich stone, possibly serpentinite, although the exact mineral composition has not been laboratory confirmed.

With this piece, the goal was to preserve much of its natural form while bringing out the colors and details hidden beneath the surface. The veins, pockets and little mineral features were left as part of the finished piece rather than being completely ground away.

That’s a big part of StoneBorn Creations—working with what the stone already has and letting its natural character remain part of the finished piece.
